Introductory Memo
In 2020, Facebook was at the centre of a major political controversy in India. Congress leaders had accused the social media platform of political bias in favour of the ruling BJP. They had claimed that hate speech rules were selectively imposed, pushing the issue into national debate. Six years later, now, the conversation appears to have shifted. Quietly. As three of the top officials in Meta India (parent company of Facebook) are being questioned on social media over their association with Congress party, Congress isn’t concerned about ‘political bias’. If similar concerns once triggered outrage and institutional scrutiny, why is there silence now? Why are political leaders not paying attention to this? The Twitterati has also urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to step in and examine these developments.
