Learning was not merely an academic pursuit but a spiritual discipline, with Goddess Saraswati revered as the source of wisdom, music, language, and intellectual refinement. Across the country, temples, gurukuls and literary traditions evolved around this civilisational idea. Even today, from children writing their first letters in Basar to the ancient legacy of Sharada Peeth in Kashmir, Saraswati worship continues to reflect India’s enduring reverence for education and scholarship. Here, we look at some of the most significant Saraswati temples that continue to preserve this legacy.
